As the energy-saving, the low-carbon and the environmental protection concept has been popular around the world, and in the environment that the Sate Council strongly support the agriculture development, there will be a innovation in the filed of poultry feeding. And with the high speed development of the society, the land scarcity will make the large scale, standardized, intensive feeding style growing up in the mainland of China.

In this environment, many domestic enterprises learn from the foreign breeding experience, and willing to do the innovation on the breeding skill, and  there are many fully enclosed indoor feeding farms grow up in a large area around the country. The indoor feeding farms are fully enclosed, which block up the connection with the external environment, and it use the artificial lighting system to imitate the sunshine which could be controlled to increase the productivity, so it's very important of the artificial lighting's rational distribution. As we all know, the appropriate lighting can improve the egg production of laying hens, can accelerate the growth of the broiler chickens, strengthen the chicks blood circulation, increase the chicken's appetite, be conducive to the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus, and enhance the immune system, But, if the light is too strong or too weak, the lighting time is too long or too short, would exert an bad influence to the chickens. Compared with the natural light, the biggest advantage of the artificial lighting is able to be controlled by person, so the light intensity, the exposure time and the wavelength could be totally controlled to the most proper level.

EU has 2 mandatory restrictions on the lighting products of the poultry feeding:
1: Must use the dimmable lighting products, it should be linear dimming when turn on/off the lamps, which can avoid the stress response from the layers / broilers.
2: The lamps must be used inside the fully closed lampshades. Because the chicken house will spray the disinfectant periodically, if don't use the fully closed lampshade, when the disinfectant sprayed on the surface of the lamp's tube, because of reason that the expand with heat and contract with cold, the tube may go burst, the fragments may fall into the trough and there would be inestimable hurt if the chicken eat the fragments by accident.

Chicken have different need of the lighting on different growing periods; different kinds of chicken have different need of the lighting. According to the EU's restrictions and combine with our company's research, the proper light intensity and time is listed as below:
(1): Brood time: 1~3 days old, need 23h~24h light everyday; 4~14 days old, need 16h~19h light everyday; 15days ~ 7 weeks the light time could deduct to 8h~9h everyday, the light intensity should be 40~50 lux.
(2) Replacement period: 7~17 weeks old, need light 8h~9h everyday; 18 weeks old, need 9h~10h light everyday; 19 weeks old, need 10h~11h everyday; from 20 weeks old, add 0.5h light time everyday, until the layers could produce eggs normally and the light time is 16h everyday. The light intensity should be 20~30 lux.
(3) The layer's lighting time should be 16h everyday, the light intensity should be 7~20 lux.
(4) The broiler's lighting time should be 16h everyday, the light intensity should be 7~20 lux.

The study found that the chicken is quite sensitive to the light, the chicken will have stress reaction if the lamps turned on / off suddenly. The stress reaction is the physiological responses to the external stimuli of the chicken, which is the physiological regulation for the instant survival, or the accommodation to certain factors for the long term survival, this physiological behavior need to consume the energy in the body, any physiological stress will make the poultry animal to use their own nutritional reserves to satisfy the physiological function which is necessary for the instant survival, which will affect the conversion of the nutrients, and also will affect other physiological function. The stress reaction occurs through the pathway of neuroendocrine, which hypothalamic - pituitary - adrenal endocrine play a leading role. The hypothalamus is the origination point of the stress reaction, when various stressors reflex to the hypothalamus by eyes, ears, nose and mouth, skin and gastrointestinal tract, the hypothalamus prompted the pituitary gland to increase the ACTH, ACTH blood into the adrenal glands to stimulates the adrenal cortex cells to produce the corticosterone, the corticosterone get to the cells of body tissues via the bloodstream, then the nucleus's information make the RNA to regulate the generated activities of biological enzymes. The corticosterone which is the stress hormone could produce energy via glucose to ensure the instant survival during the stress reaction period. Once the corticosterone is used up or not enough, the glucose will stop producing the energy, which will have adverse effect on the broiler, even cause the chicken deaths. The chicken will have many changes if the corticosterone's content increased, such as mental excitement, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure. Although the instant stressor could make the content of corticosterone increased rapidly, but it will be a normal after one or several minutes, and there will be not corticosterone in the body, it will has small impact on the body. The persistent stressor will stimulate the corticosterone constantly to be generated, the concentration in the body will increased persistently, which will lead to the  decreased appetite, sexual dysfunction, reduced egg production of the chicken. Any causes of stress can affect the immune function of the lymphatic system.
Especially the persistent stress, which will surely cause the atrophy of the thymus, bursa and spleen. Because the generating of the leukomonocyte and antisubstance decreased, chicken's resistance to the bacterium and virus, the incidence of the disease will be increased.
