(1) The choice and installation of the lighting system in the layer house. The most common artificial lighting system in our countries is the filament lamp and the control system. Although there is less investment at the earlier stage, but low at luminous efficiency, which is just about 1/5 of the fluorescent lamp. In the case of the same lighting effect, the fluorescent lamp is lower at power which is more electricity-saving than the filament lamp, which save money on the cost. In the case of consuming the same power, the effect of the fluorescent lamp is much better than the filament lamp.
The artificial lighting time is easy to be controlled, then what's the proper lighting intensity? How many fluorescent lamps or the filament lamps with how much power should we install in a chicken house? How to install the lamps could get the proper lighting intensity? According to relative experts' research, the proper lighting intensity inside the chicken house should be 5~10 lux. Lux is the unite of the lighting intensity, people are not familiar with it generally, then what's the meaning of 5~10 lux？For example, if want to reach the 5~-10 lux effect, should install one 15w filament lamp without the lampshade at the vertical height top of the chicken at 1.1m~0.7m, if install the 25w lamp, the vertical height should be 1.5m~0.9m, if install 40w lamp, the vertical height should be 1.8m~1.4m, 60w lamp, 2.3m～1.6m, 100w lamp,2.9m～2.1m, the distance between lamps should be 1.5 times longer than the distance between the chicken, the distance between the lamp and the wall should be 1/2 of the distance between the lamps, each lamp's location should be staggered, evenly distributed, after install the lamps like this, the lighting intensity in the chicken house will be 5~10 lux.  
  If install the fluorescent lamps, when the distance between the lamp and the chicken is the same with the filament lamp at the same power, the lighting intensity is 4~5 times than the filament lamp, so if want the same lighting intensity, should install the fluorescent lamp with smaller power. The lamp qty installed in the chicken house would based on the install way which listed as above, or based on the effective area of the chicken house and one lamp's
power condition to count out the lamp qty.

  In the multi-cages raised layer house, it's better to install the lamps at the top of the cages, or at the middle of 2 cages, but the height of the lamps should be sure the top cages or the middle cages' lighting intensity is 10 lux, then the bottom cages could reach 5 lux lighting intensity, so every cages could get the proper lighting. In order to save energy and keep the proper lighting intensity, it's better to install the lampshades, and should keep the lamp bulb, lamp tube and lampshade tidy. The lighting equipments should be fixed well, in case the wind swings the lamps back and forth to frighten the chicken.

(2) The usage of the lighting equipment in the chicken house.
In the open and the semi-open chicken house, there's no need the artificial lighting because the natural sunshine is enough in the daytime. Could use the artificial lighting system after dark and before dawn. For the layer feeding, the concrete case is turn on the light at 5:00 am and turn off till dawn, turn on when dark and turn off at 9:00 pm, keep the lights on 16 hours everyday. The better way is to supplement the lighting before dawn, which accord with the physiological characteristics of the chicken, the layer could ahead the time of egg production everyday, the shortcoming is should adjust the switch on/off time in time according to the natural lighting changes, it's a little difficult to operate that the workers need to get up early.

  The lighting for layers should be stable at 16 hours everyday, could not more than 17 hour. Can not shorten the lighting time arbitrarily, should control the lighting time according to the request strictly, or will affect the egg production.

  The lighting for broilers is aim to lengthen the eating time to promote the growth. There are 2 lighting ways, one is continued lighting way, 0~5 days old, 24 hours' lighting everyday, after 5 days old, 23 hours' lighting everyday, have 1 hour's dark time to make the chicken adapt to the dark environment, which can prevent the chicken been frightened when power failure; the other is discontinuous lighting way, 0~5 days old, 24 hours' lighting everyday, after 5 days old, 1 hour lighting, 3 hours in dark everyday, or 1 hours lighting and 3 hours in dark alternately. This method is energy-saving, chicken gain weight rapidly, the effect is very good.
